WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney got a clean bill of health after routine medical tests on Saturday to check on aneurysms on the backs of his knees and a high-tech pacemaker inserted in his chest in 2001.

Cheney's office said the vice president underwent his yearly routine physical at George Washington University Medical Center, which included an electrocardiogram.

Cheney, 65, has had four heart attacks but none since becoming vice president in January 2001.

The statement said the pacemaker is "functioning properly" and had detected no irregular heartbeat.

We cannot believe any report but what we can do is observe the symptoms and that is what you have outlined above: sleeping in meetings; his history, which includes being told to abstain from alcohol, meat and cigarette smoking because of his heart attacks. We know he had a drink back at the time he shot his hunting buddy, so we know that he does not pay attention to what his doctors tell him.

Fact is, he could kick off tomorrow.

Those defibrillators don't last forever. A guy I know only lasted a couple of years with one. Implanting a defibrillator is a last ditch attempt to keep someone alive when all else has been tried.

my grandfather had his put in just about two years ago. His cardiologist said it MIGHT give him a couple more years, but after that, boom....any damn time. He is two years into it...based on the information his cardiologist imparted, we are getting close to the end. He said that it would work just a fews times once it went off for the first time, then after that, it would be useless. He gets it calibrated and tested every 6 months, and his latest appointment is coming up in a few weeks. I ask him all the time if it has fired at all...he lies and tells me no.

We know a lot about these things. If Cheney has one of these, it will be a miracle if he lives to finish his term.

are sick. We never get treatment, we just have to live with the limitations of poor health and cardiac insufficiency.
