this democrat lady governor got more gonads than most men in this party or in the loyal opposition, she points out louisiana supports 80 percent of usa gulf drilling

i think we can officially stop shit-talking our democratic women leaders in louisiana if you don't mind

This year, the revenue stream is getting consideration as a way to finance $32 billion to $40 billion in hurricane protection and coastal restoration projects following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The federal government received $5.7 billion last year from oil and gas production occurring in the Gulf of Mexico from six miles from shore to international waters. Louisiana received about $32 million of that.

For years, the state has asked for half of the royalties from oil and gas produced beyond the state's three-mile boundary -- a sum that could amount to more than $2 billion a year.

don't like it, you guys got oil offshore pacific and atlantic, drill it, refine it, transport it, clean up yr own damn spills and messes

then get back to us abt how greedy we are

we have been v. v. VERY patient

you tired of foreign war for oil, you want domestic oil, damn well act like it and reward those who have suffered and given much to get you the damn oil

2. That's My Girl
Don't you know bush is hating her. She kicked his ass in the last election and she ain't shying away from a fight with the big bad deserter now. The right wing smear machine on her started the day after the hurricane but I would suggest to any "conservative" who wants to fuck with Kathleen, pack a lunch.

hell even trent lott is bitching that after all the promises all he's got is a slab and a lawsuit filed against state farm

and * wants to give louisiana even less? he's gone quite mad if he was ever sane to begin w.

5. No doubt
he loves Iraqi's more than he cares for Louisianians. I'm looking forward to the speed talker jindal spin this for his boss. I heard the little prick on the radio this morning sounding just like a democrat. Totally amazing how compassionate he and vitter can be when a disaster which can't be hidden hits the fan. Course ole mr I'm not a professional politician jindal was chatting with the president of the bobby jindal fan club, bob digirno on WWL who is truly in love with his president. Go Kathleen, keep plodding away like erosion. Maybe the gop will roll out susanne haik terrell to run against her next time; that would be too much fun.

7. Blanco: No offshore signoffs unless La. gets royalty share
Money could finance hurricane protection

http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/capital/index.ssf?/base/news-3/113877741975690.xml

Gov. Kathleen Blanco warned this week that the state would not support future offshore lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico unless Louisiana gets a share of the federal royalties generated by oil production there.

"It is abundantly clear that allowing development to occur where inadequate provisions are made for the protection of that development is irresponsible," Blanco wrote to the Mineral Management Service. "The amount of oil and gas activity off our coast means little if we have no coastal communities to take advantage of this activity."

Under a federal law that governs offshore drilling, governors in adjacent states are required to agree that federal lease sales are consistent with their states' coastal management plans. Louisiana governors have traditionally signed off on such lease sales, and Blanco's letter will not stop a March 15 lease sale of 4,000 blocks in the Gulf of Mexico for oil and gas exploration.

-Snip-

Louisiana supports 80 percent of the oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico, she said.

8. Could this be why Bush** just got religion about alternative energy?
Does he now consider Louisiana to be "an unstable part of the world"? Remember, he said "$85 billion is a lot of money in that part of the world" just the other day...

:tinfoilhat:

Nice to see Kathleen stand up to the big mean schoolyard bully. That ought to shut up the cretin in the T-P forums who calls her "Governor Edith Bunker"! (I once replied "I'd rather have Edith than Archie".)

12. ain't he from florida?
let em drill and refine the oil and gas offshore florida if they got issues w. blanco's stand, they have plenty of gulf of mexico frontage

i am out of patience w. those who would keep us in slums forever while taking our resources, esp. when they refuse to dirty themselves by developing their own similar or same resources

give us $$$ and development in exchange for the hard dirty work we've done for this nation
