We'll return for your sister's body, the rescuers said.
Two months on she was still in the house

November 8, 2005

Nobody knows how long Deborah "Bodie" Fisher, 85, had been trapped in her home with the corpse of her younger sister, Delia "Sis" Holloway, 82, upstairs, and 2ft of flood water downstairs when help finally floated by on September 2.

It was five days after New Orleans's levees had broken. Bodie waded downstairs to tell the rescuers to leave her alone. "My sister is upstairs," she told them. "Let me die here with my sister." Then she slammed the door and went back in.

<snip>

Two months later two family friends, John Gaines and Stacey Martin, went to the house. Ms Martin used to clean for the women and Mr Gaines thought taking her to the house would give her some closure.

"I left Stacey alone to get her memories," Mr Gaines says. "She went upstairs and after a while she screamed, 'Sis is in here. Sis is in here.' I thought, 'Here we go. She's hallucinating.' So I went upstairs and sure enough, there was Sis."

I wonder how many more Sis's are yet to be found? Too bad BushCo & the M$M doesn't seem to give a damn.

14. Why is this in a UK paper? Arrgh.
I am so sick of hearing about this stuff from the foreign press.

Such a terrible story. How the hell is it that the daughter didn't get an expedited transfer of her mother's body? Perhaps without the DNA testing someone doesn't get to bilk -er, bill the government?
What a bunch of heartless SOBs.

There is no excuse to make the daughter wait. None.

15. Here's a another one
November 04, 2005

Trapped in the attic of her flooded Lakeview home with little more than a box of chips and a water bottle, Althea Lala, 76, died not long after Hurricane Katrina struck on Aug. 29.

Mistakenly thinking the hale and feisty grandmother had been rescued, her family searched evacuation shelters across two states before learning that her body was at a special morgue in the town of St. Gabriel.

What happened next is a story of false hopes, faulty assurances and an exasperating series of delays before the morgue turned over Lala's body to her two daughters Thursday.

That was 66 days after the storm, 44 days after the body was removed from the house, a month after the morgue said Lala would soon be released, and 13 days after the state's supervisor at the morgue told the daughters they could immediately collect their mother's body.

"It's been a nightmare," said Jane Estopinal, one of Lala's daughters.

At least this was published in the Times-Picayune. Of course, the M$M won't cover these stories.

18. Several other stories of people finding family members' bodies in
"searched" family homes have been published. I'm betting there are hundreds throughout the south. When they demolish buildings they've condemned. Many bodies will finally be buried.
