Schwarzenegger's Top Ally (Maria) Steps In
Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 11:23 AM by UCLA Dem
<snip>

SACRAMENTO — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is facing infighting among his senior staff and campaign team, which has contributed to a series of political missteps that threaten the once soaring governor's ambitious agenda, more than a dozen aides and lawmakers said Thursday.

One sign of the governor's troubles is the active involvement of his wife, Maria Shriver. The first lady is conferring with consultants to refine the governor's message and working to ensure that her husband hears a broader range of voices.

The problems are considered bad enough that they are expected to be discussed today as the governor's senior aides gather for a strategy meeting.

Schwarzenegger is reeling after successive policy reversals, gaffes and clashes with well-organized opponents have deflated his once-buoyant approval ratings. The latest setback came this week when he told a newspaper publishers association that the United States should "close its borders." He later apologized, explaining that he misspoke because of his imperfect command of English.

Maybe he also misspoke when he called the state democrats "girly men."

1. Here comes Skeletor to the rescue...
Interesting how blame for his troubles are shifted off onto his staff and campaign team, or poor English, instead of right on top of his own melon.

39. $$$$$$$$$$$$$
She comes from the poorer branch of the family. But hey, she was famous, even more so when she went into TV. She needed more protection than her budget allowed.

Her Dad had way more name than money, and the way old Grampa Joe looked at things, the dames got nothing, all to the sons!

She's a self-loathing woman, it's in her blood, I fear.

I'm going to assume that the "aides and lawmakers" are Repubs, because a Dem would have put the blame squarely, and correctly, on Arnold himself!

...Most of those interviewed would not agree to be identified when discussing the inner workings of the Schwarzenegger administration...Many are supporters who...(also)...praise...Schwarzenegger('s)...political and policy goals.
Well, what do you know!

25. I am a native son
Born and raised in California. California is screwed. We have been going downhill economically for years. The State is deep in debt and there is no simple fix. Taxes need to go up or expenses down or both. Yet Californians won't hear of it. We want to party on like there is no tomorrow. Our politicians on both sides have gerrymandered the congressional districts so that everyone has a safe seat. We have term limits that insure that possibly wise senior politicians get kicked out. We have a prison system that drains the State while the prison guard unions buy politicians right and left. We got royally screwed by Enron and others but no one can get the money back. Most Californians are keeping up their life style by refinancing their homes with adjusted rate mortgages, God help them when the bubble breaks. California is on the cutting edge of what's wrong with America. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Governator is the symptom, not the problem. Bob

They were running a surplus. Yes, under Gray Davis!
Just like the Fed was running a surplus under Bill Clinton.

Some are, and some of us are paying off our mortgages.

36. Respectfully disagree
Yes, using highly creative accounting Davis and Clinton managed to show positive cash flows. Davis was very dishonest in the way he screwed the counties and cities. It is complicated here in Ca because of our property tax scheme called Prop 13. Passed decades ago it froze property taxes unless one sold the property and then it was re-assessed, almost always to a high value. The effect of this is lower tax contributions from business (who usually keep property for a long time) while raising contributions from home owners who buy and sell much more often. When the state had cash reserves they "helped" out cities and counties whose incomes where heavily dependent on property taxes. These subsidies were eliminated by Davis to help out the State budget. A pox on all their houses. Bob, a landowning peasant.

AND owes money to, I'll bet, like his friends at Enron. After all, those "outsiders" invested a ton of money in his election--now they want to see a return in the form of tax breaks and anti-worker, profit-enhancing legislation.

Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 02:20 PM by cosmicdot
advice on how to govern?

clue: being a multi-millionaire doesn't equate to leadership ... I don't think attending the Leadership Institute provides it, other than a certificate saying you now have it ... nor does money buy it ...

oh, Consultant Oracle ... teach us good ol'boys how to be a corporate manager so no one will know what's real and what isn't ... show us how to create a 'perception' aka how to fool the people, and pull the wool over their eyes ...

is that what we need in this country, Maria?

we need natural leaders not media creations like Bu$hitler ...

suggestion: show some bold leadership, be a real patriot, and speak out against what's happening in this country ... Maria, you're in a unique position to make a difference; and, this IS the time for ALL good citizens to come to the aid of our country ...

is this pro bono consultation? if not, who's paying for this oh-what-to-do consultation, and how much is it costing?

why not listen to 'da people', and not the corporatists, Dominionists, CNP, Karl Rove, etc.???

why not show a serious attempt to meet the needs of our infrastructure by surrounding oneself with an FDR-type brain trust? you won't need to 'consult' outside ... be a real vs. pseudo-leader ...

it's all about approach, Maria ... not perception ...

"...described Shriver as very 'unhappy' and 'frustrated'..."

where has she been? how close is she to him? she's only unhappy and frustrated today?

where was she when he met with Ken Lay?
where was she when he met with Lord Rothchild and Warren Buffett? where was she when the corrupt Rove machine came a'calling?
Who was she consulting with then?

puh-leeze - can't she "Google"?

Articles in the Associated Press, LA Weekly, and the LA Times reported that during the electricity crisis of 2001, the head of Enron, Ken Lay, met secretly with California Republicans at the Beverly Hills Hotel and pushed a plan that called for taxpayers to pay the billions in debts racked up by the states public utilities. Schwarzenegger was part of the closed door meeting where convicted Junk-Bond felon Michael Milken and other seedy members of the establishment schemed in an attempt to keep the fraudulent deregulation going.

Maria, I'm going out for some orange juice, I'll be right back ...

Warren Buffett, Arnold, & Lord Rothchild (at meeting in UK, '02)

(Still unanswered is why Warren Buffett had a CEO gathering at Offutt Air Force Base on 911 - why not have it at a hotel? or at his corporate office? ... of course, there's where Bu$h** showed up later that "It was an interesting day." 32. Maria must loathe herself...
How else to explain staying with the Gropenfuhrer? If she's REALLY a Dem, how could she support this idiot? I just can't imagine being married to someone that I so totally disagree with. My liberal ideals come from deep inside me and form a core of who I am. How could I marry someone who hated that part of me? I couldn't and no self-respecting person could, either.

Or... she's a DINO due to her parentage and doesn't really believe it or vote it; just pays it lip service so that she keeps the clan happy.
