There will be no more ER news threads here for the forseeable future.
I believe I can state that with authority, as I am the last editor left.... ;)

I could continue to gather top stories (as opposed to digging down as far as I can, as I have been doing) on a weekly basis, but I see no sense in that as a) the top stories get posted individually here, or in GD, or in GD:P, and b) there are other places to go for collections of top stories on a daily basis.

I could continue to dig down as far as I can on a weekly basis, but I've tried that for three weeks and the time investment is huge (as in 5-6 hours, at least, to do my searches and get about half of what I find posted - I've never made it past half), and does not seem warranted in light of the amount of interest I perceive.

If any more editors turn up at any point, do please invite me to do a day. I can do any day but Mondays and Fridays. Unless that happens, the DU ER news is officially defunct.

1. I deeply appreciate what you do, tbyg52.
Times are tough - probably the perceived lack of interest is due to people trying to keep a roof over their heads.

Thank you.

2. Thanks for the thanks!
I dunno - getting recs on the ER news has been like pulling teeth, and not just for me (when we had more editors).

I was happy to do it for the few recs just to feel I was pulling my weight on DU, when I wasn't the only editor.

But the 10-12 hours it would take me to scoop up all I could for a week (estimated - I haven't got past about half in the three weeks I've been doing it by myself) could be better spent, I think, if only 10-12 people take the trouble to rec it.

And I don't see any sense in doing it at all if I'm going to cut down on the time by only doing it halfway - there are other places to get just a few top stories a day.

3. this is still the most important news
especially now.

People need to understand NOTHING counts If Our Votes Don't Get Counted!!!

I will continue to post everything I find when I can.

Keeping it up daily, I cannot do.

But I promise to post as often as possible.

And, tbyg52 - take a break - but come back soon we need you!!!!

peace, kp

5. I certainly agree it's the most important news
And I thank you for posting the big stories.

Again, my situation is not that I don't think it's important. But daily collections of top stories are available elsewhere, and people like you are posting the huge stories. (And lots more are getting posted and noticed nowadays, so that's very good!)

What I felt I had to contribute was thoroughness, if nothing else - I made it my mission to find every last tiny story on my assigned day.

I've tried for three weeks to do the same on a weekly basis, and it's a nightmare. It's not just the time (although that's a big part of it), it's the hundreds of tabs open and slowing down my old machine, the pages that hang up everything and cause me to have to start over, etc., etc.

I didn't intend to quit, and kept thinking that the next week would be the week I'd get more than halfway through, but, y'know, it's an awfully big investment of time for the 10-12 people who are interested enough to rec it. I can't help thinking there are uses to which that time could be put that would benefit more people. So there it is.

I understand what you're saying having been feeling it myself for a loooong time and having done some teeth-pulling, too.

9. I remember that! It was so funny.
Remember Foger used to do some cheer leading, too.

There have been many daily editors through the years. It's been fun to get to "know" everyone. This was actually the very first forum I visited when I first joined DU, and to this day, it's a regular stop.

Maybe we can get something going again at a later date. Right now it just seems everyone is too busy, and it's just too much for one or two people to do.

The daily thread had a long run, though...gotta' say that for it!

7. Thank you for what you've done
Without fair elections, nothing else will matter. This is the most important forum of any on DU.

8. Yes, and it's getting a lot more attention now
in GD and GD:P as well as here. (And from the Obama campaign!)

If it weren't for that, I might have kept trying a while longer, but I think it's gaining momentum even without the ER Daily News thread. ( :woohoo: )

Another stolen election may liven things up a bit, but I'd prefer a Dem President.

11. Thanks to all past ER editors.
The election "thingy" is now fairly widespread on the internet, as pointed out above. I remember the days when just mentioning election fraud here at DU would garner you a dog pile of snarling, biting attacks. Sometimes beautifully orchestrated.

I like to think that DU was a place for troublemakers to concentrate their efforts so that other groups could work in a fair amount of peace. But then again, I'm nuts.

I appreciate that people intend to continue to post here. I will continue to stop in and may attempt to post more when I get connected.

13. This was a legendary project that had a great run
And "defunct" doesn't mean dead, it means "currently on hiatus."

People on this thread who have a shared sense of community through this board, hopefully you think of me as part of the group. To whatever extent this is true, I believe you will all consider this utterly consistent and the natural extension of what I've always done. This is the beginning of my latest campaign...

Paperless electronic voting +
Corporate vote counting guarded as proprietary secrets +
Nonsensical results such as negative vote totals =

"Election" results are UNPROVABLE.

Tell the media not to report as fact what can't even be proven and what hasn't been independently verified. The media should be the greatest advocates of hand counting paper ballots because this method of counting allows media greatest access to observing and documenting the process, affording their reporting the greatest credibility. Transparent coverage of a transparent counting process would create a basis for confidence in the reported results where none currently exists.

14. Thanks,tbyg52! You have been fabulous!
Getting recs in the new system was probably the last straw for ER News. What spare time I have is being spent registering voters. I been here as long as anyone and even I am a bit fried with the project and trying to dig up volunteers and recs.
Thanks for all you've done! YOU ROCK! :yourock:

15. I enjoyed my slightly over a year very much.
If it starts up again at any point, I'm on board.

I am regsitering voters as well, and doing everything I can given my reclusive nature, because if McCain wins I will want to leave the country, and, for many reasons, I just can't. So Obama's *got* to win!
