Bill Clinton was speaking to middle-aged white guys like me, that's why Rachel doesn't get it [View all]

I've been married for 25 years. I have two daughters. I met my wife in college and fell in love with her because she was an independent-minded and intelligent young woman who didn't NEED a man.

It was a different time.

Referring to Hillary in 1971 as a "girl" and himself as a "boy" is relatable to us.

The story of their life.... of the working mom his wife was... about taking their daughter to college.... is the story of so many of us middle-aged white men.

Let me be clear... *WE* were the target audience of the Big Dawg's speech. By demographics, I should be a conservative. (But I'm not, because I married a woman who is frankly as smart (or smarter) than me and having daughters I have seen how the world has been slanted against them.)

Straight working class white men and women were the targets of this speech - because that's Trump's main demographic. This was the Big Dawg taking aim at Trump's base.

Rachel simply can't relate to that point of view.... it wasn't a speech targeted at a millennial or Gen-X LGBT woman, so Rachel couldn't relate. She simply didn't get it.

But let me tell you.... for those of us in the target audience, it was REALLY effective.

There are many speakers that aim at other demographics.... some of them hit all of them. But the Big Dawg had a target - and he hit the bullseye.
