And if we get the usual apologists chiming in and bleating about respect and tolerance and progressive ideas about supernatural forces and militant atheists well, they can just deal with it.
We had Jehovah's Witnesses at the door recently and in answer to their request to talk about Jesus, I said, "Fuck off" and threatened to call the police as we have "No Cold-Calling or door-to-door Selling" Police notices on all the lamp-posts in the street. "But we are allowed to!," she said, "Because it's about what we believe!"
"But we just want to help!," she wailed. I pointed out that they were mentally ill, not me, and they needed professional help more than we do.
Why, exactly, am I expected to tolerate delusion and wilful ignorance disguised as "faith"?
The difference between a fundie and a "moderate" Christian? They both believe in the same superstitous fantasy - it's just a matter of degree.
My answer to the question, "If you're so anti-religion why do you come to the Religion forum/group?" is that I keep hoping that once, just once, a believer will offer a reason why I should treat religion with any more respect than I do. They never do.
