We are by far the worst nation at fighting gun violence in the developed world. It's not even close. The fact that the amount of gun violence has dropped from obscenely obscene to merely obscene doesn't mean we're doing a "good job". Again, it's grotesque to watch you describe 30,000 unnecessary deaths every year as "very successful".
As for other public health issues that have seen a huge drop over the last 30 years. How about, umm, drunk driving.

Drugs are illegal in most other countries as well. The big difference is gun availability.
