8. How much of this is due to online shopping?

How many people are buying online instead of in store? I do have to say the last time I was in a department store, I had to search for a salesperson for almost 10 minutes and then she was not knowledgable about goods from a different department. I felt very sorry for her as she was overworked and in all likelihood very undrpaid.

I see so many retailers switching over to self-checkout. The only difference for me between buying online and in store is customer service. Because retailers cut their staffs to the bone (before laying of management) they are in dire straits. I lived through the "downsizing" of a major retailer twice and they always made the absolute worst decisions for long-term company health.
