Every season, usually the 1st challenge, is to make something fashionable out of decidedly non-fashionable stuff. I bet I can find pics...

Once they had to get their materials from the grocery store. (a dress made of corn husks won)


Once from stuff in their hotel rooms (one contestant made a beautiful dress out of coffee filters)


Once from the Hershey's candy shop on Times Square




Once from an automotive supply place (amazing stuff! a coat made from weaving together seat belts, the winner was of leather seat covers)


Once from the city recycle depository



Once from a flower shop



and so on.

I hate reality TV... except for Project Runway. Everyone.... even the 1st to be eliminated, comes up with amazing stuff. It's NEVER about destroying someone, like so many other Reality contests are at the start of their seasons.
