4. I certainly can't prove this, but I think the political debate has to some extent been affected by

web-based discussion/critiques of political speech. I seems like there are more references to "studies" in conversations and debates as a way of establishing the veracity/validity of their assertions - more than used to be the case. (of course when a Republican uses that word that would include editorials from the Wall Street Journal or a crib sheet from a political advisor (LOL).)
