They know a wrecked economy bolsters their chances in 2016. We get caught up on demographics, but the Democrats are going to be at a disadvantage in four years. Obama won because he's Obama ... not just because the demographics favored him. He's a likable incumbent who most Americans felt at least satisfied with in the Oval Office. Most incumbents are tough to beat - even guys like H.W. Bush & Jimmy Carter, who both had approval in the 30s. The Democrats might be in the incumbent party in 2016, but they won't have an incumbent president running.

If the economy collapses again, the Republicans have a built-in advantage to regain the White House. That's what they're banking on and why I think they want to wreck the economy.
