I'm sorry that someone reacted like that, there was no reason for it and certainly no indication that you were in any way a troll. It was an honest and thought provoking question that you asked.

As for my answer... I think that, in general, democrats are morally superior - at least as it pertains to my own principles and view of morality. A social safety net, environmental protections, health care for everyone.. well, those seem like good things to me. Certainly democrats trade tit for tat in many instances, but overall, I find that the values, the goals of the party are in the right place.

Would the democrats act as badly as the republicans? It depends on what the republicans were trying to accomplish. The privatization of social security - eliminating funds from education, welfare, food stamps, heating and rental assistance and such things... well, in those instances, the democrats had damn well better act as badly as the republicans, if they want me to vote for them. In several instances, the democrats have proven to me that they share my basic beliefs in human compassion, generosity and progress.

We can all be childish at times, democrats as much as republicans... but what it ultimately comes down to, for me, is the basic belief that everyone deserves a chance.
