Sam Bacile (the director) is an Israeli citizen with family in Egypt, so this likely wasn't some big secret. Plenty of planning time, Even by the movie makers to prove their point, or by a country wanting to start a shooting war with Muslims, or by a corporation knowing that they will profit regardless of who is hurt (see: Mi$$ Rmoney)..

There are, in fact, several organizations and governments capable of striking this fast to start something else, including several U.S. corporations, all of which might well think they could profit or gain from something like this.
