She was special to me as the first woman in space and having seen her personally a number of times, I felt a lot of female pride in her accomplishments. As a staunch supporter of gay rights, I'm very gratified to find out she was a lesbian with a longterm partner. But, I am sad, as she leaves this world just a little less bright.
