An American citizen, Freeman lived in Canada for 40 years with his wife and four children, before he was deemed inadmissible due to an incident that landed him in American jail in the 1960s.

“It’s a clear case of a double standard, one for an American black man from Chicago another for a British white man coming out of federal penitentiary in Chicago,” Mulcair said.
