I suppose there are current tools that, while not perfect, could be used right now. Probably no point in reinventing the wheel, since the right tools are worthless if no one uses them. There's ~200k registered users at DU, which would mean, what - maybe ~10k to 20k active users here at least? If we wanted to we could probably already organize in the "Places" forum and share broad goals in the "Activism" forum.

I remember the 2003 Dean campaign surged forward because a number of political blogs encouraged people to organize using meetup.com. But I've had a hard time finding any blogs these days that are interested in trying to get people to organize (and few commentators that seem terribly interested). Gaius Publius at americablog.com at least seems to make some attempts at this.

It will be interesting to see what they do with OFA, now that they're switching it to work on organizing about issues. I wonder if it could provide a decent framework for progressive activists to connect.
