It comforts my 85-year old dad for my sisters and I to do that.
For myself, I got an early morning phone call from my oldest son, who lives in Anchorage. It was a surprise because there's a 3-hour time difference, and I didn't expect he'd be up so early. I didn't hear from my other son, who lives in Chicago, but we just spoke at length a couple days ago, and I was gone most of the day today.
