(6,409 posts)And they should be scared. Personally, I'm not alarmed by GMO ingredients in my food. There has been no conclusive research showing GMO grains, etc. do anything bad in your Cheerios. Still, the consumer should have the option of avoiding GMO ingredients if he or she chooses to do so. Hence the label should carry a notice if there are GMO ingredients. The food industry is scared of this because they know the average consumer will think, "Gee Emm Oh! What the hell is that? I'll buy a different brand!" Also, it would cost them money to keep track of which foods have GMO ingredients and which don't. Right now, I doubt if they know if those Oreo cookies were made with GMO wheat or not, and they would have to set up a system to track ingredients. Also, they would be fined if they screwed up, so it could cost them that way, too.
