We don't even get to vote, really--we vote for electors, and they can be "faithless" without any consequences (save having to change their name and go hide, perhaps)-- we're divorced from the process. That's an entrenched method and many are vested in keeping it that way, even if it occasionally gives us Presidents that aren't the choice of the majority.
