But I, like every other Californian who is old enough to have pocket money and doesn't live in a cave, know enough people that have family that grows that I could call half a dozen folks easily and have some high end shit grown by somebody's hippie aunt in Ukiah or in their Mom's walk-in closet in the burbs here by dinner. Or I could go see Dr. Skype, tell him I have menstrual cramps and buy legal from a dispensary tomorrow.
California has ideal growing conditions for damn near everything. We export most of it. Nobody here is using the worst grade of our most profitable agricultural commodity. We're snobby about more than food.
The way to prevent grows on public lands is to make it less risky to grow on private land. California and it's counties are doing what they can on that front but it's ultimately up to the feds because they dispense the law enforcement money and they set policies.
