The Rev. Al Sharpton, slated to be in Sanford this evening at a rally for slain teenager Trayvon Martin, tweeted this morning that his mother died but he will make the Central Florida appearance.

The civil rights activist tweeted about 6:15 a.m. that "My mother, Ada Sharpton passed in the early hours of this morning. She was my all. I hope God will give her now, PEACE.I love you, Mom."

Minutes later, Sharpton tweeted that he will still travel to Florida today.

"I am on the flight to Florida and will move forward with our plans to protest the killing of Trayvon Martin. My MOM would have wanted me to," the tweet stated.
