In similar circumstances, in the US, you get maced, beated, AND arrested. Even for passive non-resistance.
Trumped charge is usually 'assaulting an officer' even if the 'assault' was 'your face' getting 'in the way' of the officer's fist, sometimes several times.
I'm used to seeing protestors abused, beaten, maced, etc. I'm not used to seeing them walk away after the abuse.
It's just ... weird to me. Here, when it escalates to the point that an officer uses force, you are going to spend the night in jail too. Almost without exception.
