(34,137 posts)At her age - it is likely it is still worth it.
My daughter became sexually active unexpectedly - and before getting the vaccination - about 2 months after her first activity (and before activity with a second person). She had an idiosyncratic hyper sexual reaction to an antidepressant (and her jerk of a psychiatrist abruptly stopped seeing her so no one was monitoring her response) - so sometimes even with the best communication in the world, things happen.
I think the recommendation (after sexual activity starts) depends on how much exposure, whether she has already been infected, and her age. My daughter was 20 at the time - and tested negative for HPV. I'd definitely encourage her to check into it - particularly if she is likely to be active with multiple partners (or a single partner who has been active with multiple partners), and is unwilling/unable to always use barriers - even with oral sex.
