(2,962 posts)Here in South Carolina, I'm surrounded by right wing fundamentalist ignoramuses and their hateful BS. I become more awake to and aware of how hateful it is every day. Almost any day I'm out in the car, I see at least one pickup truck with a confederate flag decal that says--Heritage, not Hate. Yeah right. (sarcasm). Whenever we make a trip to the mountains we have to pass one of the largest "confederate merchandise" stores anywhere. Damn it, the confederacy is dead. It was a bad idea from the beginning based on the continuance of the deplorable practice of enslaving fellow human beings. And it deserved to perish. And I'm glad it perished and will be overjoyed when the last ugly stain of it is washed from my native soil.
Sorry. Didn't mean to get carried away, but it was brought home lately, at least to my imagination, how awful it must be to a black person to have that dreadful flag shoved in their faces every time they're on the road.
I'm very fortunate that the majority of my family are Democrats. Some are not as liberal as I am, but that's OK. The only exception is my MIL, but I already have no contact with her , because she is about the meanest, most racist person I know. I don't think she's ever listened to right wing hate radio, but she could give some of its fans a run for their money.
