from escalating they criminal activities to home invasions as a result of being uncertain as to whether the homeowners were able to defend themselves or not.
The purpose for most homeowners for owing firearms for self-defense in the homes - millions of such gun owners - is deterrence, and to not actually shoot anyone.
There is no way for you or anyone else to measure the quantity of such deterrence.
What is measurable is the loss of the seats held by Congressional and Senate Democrats after the AWB in 1994.
