(62,325 posts)anything for the next 30 years. The minute the economy improves that period extends immediately, and that number is, as I said, the worst scenario. SS has more than one source of income, it has shown, as a result of its other sources (interest on the Treasury Bonds eg) a SURPLUS every year even during this terrible economy.
Second, it had ZERO to do with the deficit, cutting SS will do nothing to reduce the deficit as it is a separate fund from the Federal Fund. It is INSANE that SS is even part of these discussions. The only reason for that is that the Right and the Third Way desperately want to privatize that huge fund so they don't have to pay back what they borrowed and spent on Wall St. corruption, Bush Tax cuts for the wealthy, and the myriad of illegal wars. They also want to get their hands on the constantly increasing surplus, which will double to over FOUR TRILLION by 2023. People need to stop listening to the lie that SS 'needs fixing' and that it had anything to do with the deficit. These are LIES.
