especially couples with the USMC sticker. A lot of people automatically assume that everyone in the military is a righty.
People, when they learn that I'm a combat vet, mistakenly assume I'm a righty a lot. If anything, my combat experience pushed me hard to the left with my politics and made me a much more tolerant and loving person. War can be a very humanizing experience when you realize that the people who you are fighting against aren't that different from you.
Granted, I don't believe the same hardline Islamist fundamental positions as some of these guys, but most of the guys that I fought and detained explained that they were fighting me out of a sense of duty they felt they had towards their communities and families. They viewed me as an occupier and were doing what was necessary to get me out. That is an opinion and a view that I can respect and, if I were in their shoes, I could see myself doing the same as them. As soon as you realize that you don't hate the people you are fighting against, it gets way more difficult to kill them.
Anyways, as soon as I get some extra money I want to get a "Combat Infantryman" license plate for my blue volksagon beetle. It'll look nice right next to the flowers my wife has all over the back of the car and the "proud to be a vegetarian" sticker my wife put on there too.
