(24 posts)There's no reason whatsoever not to "shame people for exercising their Constitutional rights." How is that any different than shaming someone for protected opinions that society at large deems noxious? That's what we do all the time. That's part of what having an open society is about. We don't only use to laws to guide behavior--we also look down on some things. That's life. Just because it is currently legal to own certain kinds of firearms doesn't grant you protection from other people thinking you are an idiot. Just as you aren't protected from that when you utter protected but unpopular speech.
Your position is essentially that baby-like gun owners should be shielded from -gasp- other people's disapproval or mockery.
Equally misguided is your equation of all gun-ownership with second amendment guarantees. Clearly there exists the constitutional possibility of, for example, (another) ban on "assault" weapons. IF enough people find them without social value, such laws will likely pass (again).
Your equation of people laughing at gun owners with actual hate speech is just plainly offensive. Someone makes fun of someone's manhood and they're then like a black family getting a cross burned on their lawn? Man the fuck up.
