Most people who really get eaten by a new hobby are pretty enthusiastic about it.

The friend I mentioned was like I described for probably a couple years before we went and briefly replaced him with a script. And in my own case of the definition the ability not to talk about an interest is important, or at least the ability to look at other things in life without hauling the issue at hand into them. I don't see having a collection as a sign of nuttiness, per se; it's the attitude that surrounds that collection that matters. (I say that as someone who's going to be assembling a moderately eyebrow-raising collection - not of firearms - in the next several years myself, but I'm also aware that that's not going to be Everything I Am And Do.)
