Fox News boss Rupert Murdoch tweets his support for gun control [View all]

The owner of Fox News disagrees with his own network stars about tighter gun control. Rupert Murdoch, billionaire proprietor of the conservative-leaning news network, wrote on Twitter late Friday: "Terrible news today. When will politicians find courage to ban automatic weapons?" Fox is home to contributors who usually oppose new gun restrictions, but when the channel's paymaster dissents, will that signal a tipping point in the gun control debate? The Twittersphere's responses were decidedly divided. Semi-automatic assault rifles like the Bushmaster .223 found at Sandy Hook have been legal in the U.S. since their federal ban lapsed in 2004, though some states maintain their own restrictions.
