4. as it stands, I don't see any chance of taking back the house in 2014

Look at the delegations Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin are sending to the House in 2013. Better than 2-1 Republicans. And these are states where Democrats WON the popular vote for house races.

We lost bigger in 2010 than it seemed at first: the census enabled the GOP to gerrymander almost perfectly.

We'd need a complete blowout, a monumental landslide, to put these things right. And we have to hold state legislatures in 2020 to re-draw the lines.
