1. The Bush tax cuts will expire if we just do nothing.

Then the Dems can come back the very next day and offer the tax cut for people under $250,000.

The real threat right now is that the Dems will trade away entitlement or safety-net programs in a pretend compromise.

repukes can't pass anything unless Obama signs it. Activists should focus on the Democrats, because they have more power right now.

Well, people can focus on both parties. But I wouldn't get totally distracted by the tax side of this compromise and then forget the other half of the compromise involves cutting vital social programs. I would rather see NO compromise than a crappy compromise. And from what we know right now, any deal they come up with is likely to be pretty bad.

Just because the GOP agrees to let taxes go up a little for the wealthy, that doesn't make it a good deal. People ought to look at what is being given away from benefits as part of that deal. We can get the tax part of the deal just by doing nothing and letting them expire.
The Dems have all the leverage and power right now.
