gotten out of the spotlight. I ran for a delegate for him in 1988. Lost, but he actually called and wanted me to be his convention whip for the Alabama delegation. It was the most exciting thing I have ever done, except for driving on top of a car on the Talledega race track after the race was over (and having police converge) and walking among thousands toward the Mall at Obama's 2009 inauguration.

I have never since met a man who could actually make people feel that the air was getting sucked out of the room when he entered. (literally....I can still remember it)

The funniest thing I remember was that Jesse told Dukakis that he wanted to be his "partner" ( simply meaning ally). The Dukakis team freaked out and thought he was actually asking for some legal agreement.

But this isn't about the dad...it is about the son. Who knows, with recovery and medication, he could be the brightest turnaround story out there.
