(35,414 posts)47. In order to get the HCTC you have to be getting a pension
from the PBGC (Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp) or be qualified for TRA or TAA. TRA and TAA are for people that have lost their jobs and health-care as a result of foreign trade. You also must not be eligible for Medicare. At 62 the company offered me my pension and health-care
insurance until I become (65) Medicare age. The company terminated our health-care in September and since part of my pension comes from the PBGC I get the HCTC until I reach 65 in April next year it will save me over $4000. I am very lucky a lot of my fellow employees don't qualify for the HCTC and have to pay the full premium, that's $1618 a month if they are married. Good luck.
