Time was...a candidate defeated by their own scandals and/or criminality were rejected by their party and the body politic.

Now Trump knows his cultists will follow him to the gates of hell so he shamelessly acts as though the long arm of the law is some sort of political conspiracy against him rather than long-delayed justice
