(5,733 posts)where it's like West Virginia West. I stopped behind a pickup the other day that had the sticker, "I'll keep my God, my guns, and my money; you keep the change." In fairness, he didn't state WHICH God that was, however the Jesus that I have read about - the one who gave the Sermon on the Mount, who overturned the moneychangers in the Temple, who said to turn the other cheek, who said to offer your coat to the one who stole your cloak, etc. - would likely have been appalled at that statement. Mr. Pickup Driver seemed to be clueless as to the hypocrisy.
Throughout the election, I didn't see a single Obama sign here (unlike the first time), which didn't mean that he didn't have supporters here; it only meant that putting one up was an exercise in futility, as the local Tea Party darlings would just immediatley tear it down or deface it. Fortunately, most of the "anti-Obama" billboards up around town were so stupid and poorly done, that the first several times I saw them, I thought they were actually endorsing the Prez!
The local paper endorsed Romney (unlike the mighty Denver Post), and it recently ran a letter to the editor from some intolerant jerk who said that we should become two states (which is frequently brought up), because the Eastern Slope runs the elections, and that we should eliminate the electoral college, as she failed to see why other states should be allowed to elect our President! Guess she conveniently forgot that President Obama also won the popular vote, and (much as I love this state) there is no justification for having Colorado elect the president all by itself.
I've never smoked pot, but living here on the Western Slope, I'm glad I now have that option.
