(I was previously given permission by Skinner to post periodically about http://www.wishadoo.org, especially when it involves DUers, with this required disclaimer: "The administrators of Democratic Underground have given permission for one discussion thread on this topic. The administrators of Democratic Underground make no claims regarding the legitimacy or illegitimacy of this fundraising effort. Permission was granted by Skinner on 8/6/2010, and the moderators have been notified."

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!!!! Catbyte has asked that I ask people to stop donating, as she has reached what she feels she needs to breathe for the moment. She is overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity.
YOU ARE ALL AMAZING!!!!!

Earlier today DUer catbyte created this DU post to share her experience and the dreadful situation she finds herself in, which includes fearing for her three cats after receiving an eviction notice. She wrote:
"You know how they say that many folks are 1 paycheck away from disaster? Well I am 1/2 a paycheck from disaster and disaster has hit. My husband has been in a nursing home for 18 months and will likely be there permanently due to the ravages of having Type I Diabetes for 54 years. He has vascular dementia and has lost part of a foot. Our insurance ran out and I was hit with a big bill before Medicaid kicked in. It paid some months retroactively but not all. I was faced with a choice of keeping a roof over his head or mine. I think I can stay with friends for a while but I am worried sick about my 3 cats.
I never thought I would be in this position at age 57. Sorry but I just had to vent. The healthcare system in this country sucks even if you have insurance."
The link below takes you to the Wishlist post, which gives a bit more information, including contact (and PayPal) info for catbyte if you can help in any way.

catbyte would GREATLY appreciate it if you would kindly:
* Recommend this thread and keep it kicked
* Share the Wishlist post with your social networks (or share from here, of course)
* Offer whatever support you can (information, advice, financial support, well wishes, etc.)
You can contact her here at DU through PM, at Wishadoo, or send an email to her as noted in the Wishlist post.
PLEASE NOTE: Anyone is welcome to use the tools at Wishadoo, so long as the Terms of Service are adhered to (basically "play nice" and don't lie). This includes creating posts in the Wishlist, a "craigslist of compassion." Most of us are struggling with one thing or another, and as you'll see, there are many categories in the Wishlist to cover a variety of issues/needs.
Wishadoo! is a portal of sorts, where there are tools to create more compassionate, cooperative communities; the Wishlist is where we can ask, offer, give, receive and pay it forward. If you create a Wishlist post, let me know your DU name, and I can start to do weekly or biweekly threads such as this to highlight DUers' needs and offerings.
(FYI, the Wishlist post regarding Bubble & Squeak was shared far and wide, and eventually led to a happy yet bittersweet ending -- given the poignant circumstances -- thanks to the heroism of several DUers and well wishes of many non-DUers around the country. BTW, we may need an update from DUer, jsmirman, as to whether or not he is still in need of funds to cover everything; the DNC and other news events derailed that effort, last I heard. We were almost there, though...)

I realize there are pleas for help from every corner nowadays, but if you are able to help support the administrative costs of Wishadoo! so the website can continue to provide tools to help one another, there aren't enough words to express my gratitude. I struggle tremendously myself and hate to ask, especially when I'm posting to ask for help for others, but ask I must. Remember that Glenn Beck branded Wishadoo! as part of the community/socialist/fascist conspiracy on his show, so I know we're on the right track with such endeavors for The Common Good!
Investing in Wishadoo! goes toward the cost of maintaining the site, NOT toward any Wishlist posts. That takes place one on one, between Wishadoo! members. ~ OneGrassRoot[br]
