Your question is a good one, but it wasn't long ago that angry Democrats accused Bernie supporters of being mindlessly manipulated by Russian propaganda and that they wouldn't have anything negative to say about Clinton if they weren't so mindless. I'm paraphrasing, of course. I think that's why you're seeing some defensiveness.
