Breaking in Orange & Durham County NC

"Welp. Precinct officials in Durham County have been told to stop using the computers for voter check-in and to start using the poll books."

"There is apparently some kind of county-wide technical problem that has necessitated reverting to pen and paper."

ACLU asks DOJ to investigate LePage over voting comments

The ACLU of Maine is asking the Department of Justice to investigate Gov. Paul LePage over comments that he made Monday about students voting in the election.

“Democrats for decades have encouraged college students from out of state to vote in Maine, even though there is no way to determine whether these college students also voted in their home states,” the governor said in a statement Monday morning. “Casting ballots in two different states is voter fraud, which is why Maine law requires anyone voting here to establish residency here.

"We welcome college students establishing residency in our great state, as long as they follow all laws that regulate voting, motor vehicles and taxes. We cannot tolerate voter fraud in our state.”

Update: North Carolina News Anchor Grips Handcuffs During Election Polling Segment

A news anchor at a CBS affiliate in Greensboro, North Carolina, clutched handcuffs for no apparent reason during a segment on election polling last Tuesday.

Just before summarizing the close North Carolina election polling performed by nearby Elon University, WFMY News anchor Morgan Hightower put down a tablet she had been holding and picked up a pair of handcuffs.

“Now let’s get back to those new poll numbers that Elon released today,” Hightower said, visibly gripping the handcuffs. “They said not only will this presidential race be too close to call in our state, so will the race for governor and Senate.”

The camera next zoomed in on her hands holding the handcuffs, then cut away to feature graphics of the poll results.

Neither Hightower nor WFMY’s news director immediately responded to requests for comment about the meaning behind the gesture.

It is hard, however, not to associate Hightower’s use of handcuffs with the claims of Donald Trump’s campaign and its backers that Hillary Clinton belongs in prison for her use of a private email server while serving as secretary of state.

WFMY issued has issued a response:

Last week, our newscast aired a brief story on the deadlock closeness of the Presidential polls in North Carolina using handcuffs as a prop. We commonly use props and visual comparisons in storytelling. In response to a Huffington Post article about our report, it appears social media has separated the words of our story from our pictures and the storytelling intent.

Our story was not about - and made no reference to - any investigation, criminality or possible prosecution of either Presidential candidate. It was a story about the neck and neck closeness of the candidates in current polling - the prop meant to denote the discomfort of these bitter rivals locked side by side in the polls. We should have better explained, more so, used a better prop. We regret the confusion.

Donald Trump polling percentage at 0.0% with Wisconsin African-American voters

The final Marquette Law School poll before election day that was recently released showed that 46 percent of likely Wisconsin voters preferred Democrat Hillary Clinton while 40 percent supported Republican Donald Trump.

But looking deeper at those numbers, one of the more stunning figures that came out of that survey is that Trump has literally zero support among African-Americans in the Badger State. It seems that Trump's polling numbers with African-Americans in Wisconsin are very similar to the grade-point average of John Belushi's famous John "Bluto" Blutarsky character from the classic movie "Animal House": 0.0.

Out of 59 likely African-American voters surveyed in the Marquette poll conducted October 26-31, not one said they have or will vote for Donald Trump. Nationally, Real Clear Politics polling average puts Trump's African-American support at just 5.6 percent and Clinton's at 84 percent.

The 0.0 came despite a pitch from Trump at a rally in West Bend, Wisconsin, on Aug. 16 where he reached out to black voters. "To every voter in Milwaukee, to every voter living in every inner city or every forgotten stretch of our society, I am running to offer you a better future," Trump said. "Are you ready for change?"

Trump supporter points gun at 6 kids after his sign is destroyed

A Donald Trump supporter in Michigan pointed a gun at six kids he suspected of destroying a yard sign favoring the Republican presidential candidate.

Allen Park officers found the children, aged 12 to 14, on the grass Saturday with 56-year-old Michael Kubek standing over them "cursing and yelling." They said a gun had been pointed at them.

"He was using very profane language," a neighbor told Fox 2. "Real bad language."

Kubek had called police to report the damaged sign and that the children were fleeing. He told officers the gun was not loaded, and that he didn't see who damaged the sign, which read "Trump Pence Make America Great Again."

Indiana's own James Comey situation might prevent African Americans from voting

On October 4, Indiana state police raided the headquarters of the Indiana Voter Registration Project, a group that was registering tens of thousands of African Americans to vote. Claiming evidence of fraud and forgery, the police shut down the group's work a week before the state's registration deadline. The raid and ongoing investigation have cast a shadow over the state's elections, police, and top Republican officials—and control of the US Senate could hang in the balance.

Indiana is not a swing state in the presidential election, but the close Senate contest between Republican Todd Young and Democrat Evan Bayh could determine which party controls the Senate for the next two years. The state is also in the midst of a pitched battle for the governor's seat, which is being vacated by Donald Trump's running mate, Mike Pence. The importance of these races has intensified questions about the conduct of the state's election authorities and police. Why, critics ask, is the state launching an investigation weeks before a major election, without sharing proof that fraud has taken place?

"We don't want people raising these claims right before elections," says Luis Fuentes-Rohwer, an election law expert at Indiana University Bloomington Maurer School of Law. "Unless you have hard evidence."

To Fuentes-Rohwer, the situation in Indiana is alarmingly similar to the controversy surrounding the FBI's involvement in the presidential election. Last Friday, FBI director James Comey announced new evidence in the probe into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server, less than two weeks before the election and without any information about that evidence or proof of wrongdoing. The Trump campaign is now running an attack ad based on Comey's announcement.

Secretary of State investigating possible 'vote flipping' bug in some machines

Source: NBC-11-Alive

ATLANTA -- Secretary of State Brian Kemp's office is investigating complaints of "vote flipping" in several counties, including three here in metro Atlanta.

Records are being shattered in Georgia as more people than ever before cast their ballots early.

Ethel Newton voted at the East Point library on Monday.

"I punched Hillary and it switched to Donald Trump," Newton said.

A poll worker quickly helped her start over.

"I've been voting since I was 18-years-old and I'm 71 now and I'm witnessing things at the polls that I've never seen before," Newton said.

Another viewer in Dekalb County said a similar thing happened to her. Again, she contacted a poll worker and the issue was quickly fixed.

A spokesperson for the Secretary of State's office said they're investigating complaints of "vote flipping" in Cobb, Coweta, Clayton, Baldwin and Bryan Counties.

In each case the votes were all corrected.
