Greg Abbott Wins YCT Straw Poll, Still Silent On DREAM Act

The Young Conservatives of Texas, the controversial group whose UT Chapter was responsible for both the "Affirmative Action Bake Sale" and the "Catch an Illegal Immigrant Game" have released the results of their straw poll along with their endorsements of Texas statewide Republicans and it could get a little awkward.

Greg Abbott, YCT's top choice for governor was pressured into distancing himself from the group earlier this month, and now Texas Democratic Party leaders are calling for him to outright and preemptively reject their endorsement because of their anti-immigrant activities. State Representative Mary Gonzalez one of the Texas Legislature's youngest members said,

Greg Abbott Continues to Avoid Qualifying His Support For The DREAM Act

Texas Republicans have a lot to say about Immigration lately unless they happen to be running for governor and named Greg Abbott.

Yesterday hundreds of students as well as University officials expressed disgust at the "Catch an Illegal Immigrant Game" organized by a former staffer of Abbott's. While the Attorney General did distance his campaign from the "repugnant" event it stopped short of addressing the larger issue at hand, the DREAM Act.

Hundreds of Students Rally At UT In Solidarity With DREAMers

Today about 500 hundred supporters of UT's undocumented students gathered on the West Mall to protest the Young Conservatives of Texas' "Catch an Illegal Immigrant Game." The game was canceled yesterday morning after an overwhelmingly negative response from both the student body and the University.

The YCT's event organizer and former field operative for Greg Abbott said, ironically, that they feared "retaliation" from school officials and for the safety of their volunteers. That's a bold statement coming from a group that sought to make a game out of the fear that approximately 400 of their fellow classmates live with everyday.

Greg Abbott Responds To Former Staffer's Mock "Illegal Immigrant" Round-up By Attacking Wendy Davis

The Greg Abbott campaign released an official response to their former staffer's,"Catch an Illegal Immigrant Game," and it's worse than you could imagine. The initial reaction was to quickly throw the troublemaker under the bus and attempt to wipe their hands of the matter telling the Texas Tribune, "despite social media profiles to the contrary, he's no longer working with Abbott." But, as social media raised the profile of the event organized by the UT Austin chapter of the Young Conservatives of Texas, Abbott was forced to revisit the incident calling it a, "repugnant effort" in a prepared press statement.

He probably should have stopped there but he didn't, and instead allowed his response to desperately and haphazardly tailspin into a diatribe against anything that might distract potential Tea Party Republican Primary voters: abortion, Obama, Wendy Davis and even Satan worship...Yes, Satan worship.

Greg Abbott Campaign Poll of "Important Reforms" Doesn't Include "Education" Or "Immigration"

The Greg Abbott campaign continues to avoid the real issues important to Texans and focus more on federal and local issues instead of the one's his prospective office actually deals with. It's no wonder a recent article in Texas Monthly referred to him as having, "little knowledge of state government."...

PPP Poll That Shows Wendy Davis Trailing By Double Digits Includes Silver Lining

A new poll by Public Policy Polling (PPP) on the race for Texas Governor shows Senator Wendy Davis trailing Attorney General Greg Abbott by 15%. This comes on the heels of a Texas Tribune poll taken last week that showed Davis with in 5% of Abbott, her leading Republican opponent.

The results weren't all bad news: more voters have a positive view of Davis than Abbott, and by the slimmest margin oppose the law she filibustered possibly neutralizing that issue against her...
