Facebook Fails to Enforce Their Own Animal Abuse Policies

HubPages.com

Shocking and Appalling Animal Abuse on Facebook

As an animal lover, I frequently browse videos of animals when I'm using Facebook. I found that there is a dark side, that not may people are aware of, where blatant animal abuse is being displayed visually. And Facebook is doing nothing to stop the people who are doing it.

My purpose in writing this is that I hope more people will become aware, and will help report these types of videos until Facebook follows their policies and suspends any account posting videos depicting animal abuse.

Facebook is one of the biggest and most popular social media platforms, having over 3 billion active users and should be monitoring what is being fed to society on their app, especially when questionable content is being reported and outright ignored by their company.

What a Jim Crow era-asylum can teach us about mental health today

Fresh Air (NPR)

From the outside, the Hospital for the Negro Insane of Maryland, which opened in Crownsville, Md., in 1911, looked like a farm, with patients harvesting tobacco, constructing gardens and working with cattle.

But Peabody Award-winning NBC journalist Antonia Hylton says the hospital's interior told a different story. Inside, Crownsville Hospital, as it became known, had cold, concrete floors, small windows and seclusion cells in which patients were sometimes left for weeks at a time. And the facility was filthy, with a distinctive, unpleasant odor.

"There was a stench that emanated from most of the buildings so strong that generations of employees describe never being able to not smell that spell again, never being able to fully feel they washed it out of their clothes or hair," Hylton says.

Enemy Drone that killed US troops in Jordan was mistaken for a US drone, preliminary report suggests

Associated Press
January 29, 2024

WASHINGTON, (AP) -- An enemy drone that killed three American troops and wounded dozens of others in Jordan may have been confused with an American drone returning to the US installation, two US officials said Monday.

As the enemy drone was flying at a low altitude, a US drone was returning to the small desert installation known as Tower 22 and may have been let pass by mistake, according to a preliminary report cited by the officials, who were not authorized to comment and insisted on anonymity.

As a result, there was no effort to shoot down the enemy drone that hit the outpost early Sunday morning. The US troops at the outpost use trailers for their sleeping quarters.

Officials said that of the 34 wounded troops, most had cuts, bruises, traumatic brain injuries and similar wounds. Eight were medically evacuated and the most seriously hurt service member is in critical but stable condition.

Donald Trump's Team Reportedly Tapped RFK Jr. as Potential Running Mate

The Daily Beast
January 27, 2024

Sources close to Donald Trump reached out to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. about serving as the presidential candidate's running mate, per a new report by The New York Post.

"Trump operatives expressed an interest in Kennedy early on, but it was all premature," a source said.
The connection was made "right out of the box when Bobby announced, in April, 2923 when Kennedy went public with his presidential bid. Still, the potential duo is still on the table.
"Anything's possible, I wouldn't write it off by any means," the source added.

Kennedy was initially running as a Democrat, but has since switched to the Independent Party. Per the report, Kennedy "wasn't interested' in joining Trump's Republican campaign.
Kennedy has spoken against multiple vaccines, perhaps putting him at-odds with Trump, who funded the development of a COVID-19 vaccine during the pandemic in 2020.

International Court of Justice Orders Israel to Prevent Genocide in Gaza But fails to Order Ceasefire

Democracy Now
January 26, 2024

In a highly anticipated ruling, the International Court of Justice at The Hague has found that there is a "real and imminent risk" that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza and supported "at least some" of the provisional measures South Africa had requested when it brought the case in order to rein in Israel's military assault.

Though the ruling falls short of calling for an immediate ceasefire, analysts say it is nevertheless a significant milestone.

We discuss the "unprecedented" decision by the World Court with a panel of experts: Palestinian human rights attorney Diana Buttu, genocide scholar Raz Segal, and scholar of colonialism Mahmood Mamdani.

"It becomes imperative upon the world community now to act," says Butto. "This is the beginning of a process of isolating Israel," adds Segal.
