NRA ‘Home Defense’ Course Instructs Audience To Store Guns In Kids’ Room

Source: talking Points Memo

Gun owners should store a gun in their kids’ room, according to a ‘Home Defense Concepts’ seminar offered at the National Rifle Association’s Annual Meeting, comments that came just days after the fatal shooting of a two-year-old at the hands of her five-year-old brother.

The course was taught by Rob Pincus, who owns the popular firearm instruction company I.C.E. Training. Pincus argued that, in the event of a home invasion, parents would instinctually run to their children’s room anyway, they might as well have a gun stored there to kill two birds with one stone:

PINCUS: How about putting a quick-access safe in your kids’ room? [...] Good idea or bad idea? We have an emotional pushback to that. Here’s my position on this. If you’re worried that your kid is going to try to break into the safe that is in their bedroom with a gun in it, you have bigger problems than home defense. [Laughter] If you think that the kid who’s going to try to break into the safe because it’s in their room isn’t sneaking into your room to try to break into stuff, you’re naive and you have bigger problems than this. So let’s settle that issue and think about it. In the middle of the night, if I’m in the bathroom or getting a glass of water or in the bedroom or watching TV in the living room, if that alarm goes off and the glass breaks and the dog starts barking, what’s the instinct that most people are going to have, in regards to, “am I going to run across the house to get the gun, or am I going to run over here to help the screaming kid?” And if I’m going to go to the kid anyway, and I have an extra gun and an extra safe, why not put it in their closet?

In Case You Missed It, A Seriously Scary Thing Is Scheduled To Happen To New York City In November

http://www.upworthy.com/in-case-you-missed-it-a-seriously-scary-thing-is-scheduled-to-happen-to-new-york-city-in-nov

This stuff sounded so insane that I had our professional fact-checkers comb through the whole thing. What’s really crazy? Everything in this video is factual and true.

And if New Yorkers can't stop this, what's the rest of the country going to do?

So what are we going to do about it?

It would be awesome if you wouldn't mind sharing this video.
You could also donate to the legal fund for the lawsuit against Spectra Energy.
If you live in or near New York City, you can get tickets for a film screening and fundraiser on May 8, 2013 (full details here). There's a free (register here) talk about radon and public health on May 14, 2013.
If you live in New York City, you can also write, email, call, tweet, or send a Facebook message to your elected officials.

Tea Party FrEAkS out over Solar Energy plant spill!

Solar Energy Plant Spill Has Tea Party Panicking

In a little reported story, a solar energy farm located in a heavily Tea Party populated area of Arizona, had to shut down the collection tower for a maintenance problem. While the plant’s spokesman assured local residents that there was no danger whatsoever, the local Tea Party members were up in arms.

“This is just another example of the liberal media failing to report on an important story,” said head of the Arizona Tea Party chapter, Buzz Redfern.

“All those hippy liberals have no problem complaining about a little oil leak but have nothing to say about this epic disaster. All they can focus on is the tar sands pipeline in Arkansas blowing up and contaminating residential neighborhoods and the drinking water. But hell, you can step over the river of oil flowing down the streets and buy bottled water. What are we supposed to do? When they shut down that collection tower sunlight started spilling everywhere.”

Exxon's Pegasus oil pipe spills crude into Missouri yard

Source: South Bend Tribune

(Reuters) - Exxon Mobil Corp's near 70-year-old Pegasus oil pipeline spilled a small amount of crude on Tuesday into a residential yard in Ripley County, Missouri, a month after the same pipe spewed thousands of barrels of crude in Arkansas.

A resident notified the company of the spill after spotting a patch of oil and dead vegetation seven miles south of Doniphan in the southeast of the state, Exxon and state officials said on Wednesday.

About one barrel of crude leaked and the cleanup is "close to completion", an Exxon spokeswoman said.

Tuesday's spill occurred 200 miles north of Mayflower, Arkansas, where about 5,000 barrels of crude spilled from the Pegasus pipe into a residential area on March 29, prompting a giant clean-up operation that is still ongoing.

The Mayflower spill stoked a fractious national debate about the effect of shipping increasing amounts of tarry Canadian crude across the United States, including through residential areas and in aging pipelines.

The Pegasus line, which can carry more than 90,000 barrels a day of crude from Illinois to Texas, was built in the late 1940s. It was shut after the Arkansas spill and was not in operation when the Missouri spill occurred.

Exxon has not offered a timeline for when Pegasus will restart.
