APNewsBreak: Republicans less likely to be checked

Democratic and independent voters were exceedingly more likely to have their right to vote questioned as part of a citizenship status review by Colorado's Republican secretary of state, The Associated Press learned Monday. Democrats and independents received 86 percent of the nearly 4,000 letters from Secretary of State Scott Gessler asking them to either voluntarily withdraw their registration or show proof of citizenship, according to figures his office provided the AP.

The breakdown bolstered skepticism that Gessler had a political motivation in sending the letters. Democrats have long argued that proposals to question voters' citizenship disproportionately affect members of their party and those registered as independents.

The GOP, rape, and personhood

This showed up on facebook.

My response:

I call BS. By conferring full rights on an insentient fertilized egg you necessarily negate the rights of the sentient host body in order to do so. And you know it. Otherwise, you'd similarly truncate the rights of the sperm donor, and we all know that ain't going to happen.

Chris Matthews' comments to Priebus --

for those of us unable to watch the video, is there a transcript available? Or a synopsis of what was said?

(I went to MSNBC, but my dialup won't let me open anything there.)

Thanks!

My Vagina Has Legitimate Concerns About Electing Republicans (Margaret and Helen)

...

Rape is never legitimate? So that means that rape is illegitimate? And I guess illegitimate rape is when the woman enjoys the attack so much that she gets pregnant? Even in his apology there is no awareness of the real issue. He gives absolutely no thought to the woman – just the man and the “child”? And where does Akin get his opinion on the reproductive system of a woman, or as he calls it “that whole thing”. Clearly he’s a few credits shy of being a gynecologist, but he does have a degree in management engineering. I guess on the weekends, he manages to hang out with doctors and discuss how that whole female reproductive system thing has been engineered to protect itself against rape. Honestly, Margaret, where do they find these asshats? Is it just me, or is there a different Republican each week with his head up my whole thing? What exactly are they looking for up there – a tax refund?

Lights, camera, action...

Remember that hideous video that W made, the one about his "comedic" search for WMDs? Well, given that Mitt shares that same sick sense of humor he, too, should make a "funny" video showing him searching for truth in his campaign ads. It'd go over big in Tampa.
