MrScorpio thought that he'd give it a try, starting an OP written in 3rd person narrative

He didn't give it much hope to receive a lot of replies. After all, many of his other novelty threads died an early death, dropping into that pit of oblivion with nary a reply. Would others find it interesting enough to add their own replies in the third person narrative, thus taking the direction of the posts in fascinating and even humorous ways? Why, who knows?

The Lounge's denizens are, if anything, quite a fickle lot. Sometimes taking to a thread, while other times not even caring to add their own distinctive oeuvres to a particular subject. Unless, that subject had to do with tried and true subjects, like beer, cats and a particular obsession of certain chain restaurants.

Leaving a post, his plan was to do what he did always, and leave a post and allow it to either develop into a conversation or just let it die its natural demise. There's no point in trying to force a particular subject on people who found it either too boring or unremarkable to reply, he thought.

But you can never tell with this lot. Even though the folks in the Lounge aren't as eager to post replies as those are in GD or LBN, sometimes a Lounge post does take off. Whatever sparks those times that posts there take to flame, MrScorpio wished that he could harness the formula. He liked having conversations with the Loungers, even if they weren't always up to the task.

The Man In Black

Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,
Why you never see bright colors on my back,
And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town,
I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime,
But is there because he's a victim of the times.

I wear the black for those who never read,
Or listened to the words that Jesus said,
About the road to happiness through love and charity,
Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose,
In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes,
But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back,
Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old,
For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold,
I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been,
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,
Believen' that the Lord was on their side,
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,
Believen' that we all were on their side.

Well, there's things that never will be right I know,
And things need changin' everywhere you go,
But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right,
You'll never see me wear a suit of white.

Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day,
And tell the world that everything's OK,
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black.

Unarmed Man Shot And Killed By Houston Cop For Wearing A Hoodie While Black

Jordan Baker, a 26-year-old Houston Community College student and father, “took his last breath in a trash-strewn alley behind a Northwest Houston strip center” on Thursday, January 16, all because he was a black man wearing a hoodie.

Houston police officer J Castro, an 11-year veteran who was moonlighting as a security guard for the strip mall that night, was on the lookout for hoodie-wearing armed robbery suspects. Castro says Baker, who was unarmed, matched the description and he shot and killed him as a result.

The police version of events, as reported by the local ABC affiliate, follows the predictable “he wasn’t cooperating and the cop was scared for his life” script:

According to police reports, an off-duty officer working security at the strip center, which is at the intersection of Antoine Drive and West Little York Road, Thursday night when he saw Jordan Baker riding his bike through the parking lot and peeking into businesses. When the officer asked Baker for an I.D., he said there was a scuffle, and a footchase, with the officer finally cornering Baker in the alley. The officer told investigators Baker charged toward him, and that’s when he fired his gun.

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, before Baker was even named as the victim, police falsely told reporters that their officer had killed the man behind the robberies.
