VP Harris seeks to energize Black voters with economic opportunity tour

(Reuters) U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday will launch a multistate tour to tout economic opportunities for Black Americans in an effort to mobilize a critical voting base for Democrats ahead of November’s election.The tour, which heads to Detroit next week, will focus on investing in communities, building wealth and ensuring Americans of all colors have economic opportunities, according to the White House. It will also highlight the administration's achievements, including a $158 million federal grant for Atlanta that will reconnect Black communities cut off by major highways with the city's downtown.

White Supremacist Patriot Front Group Marches Through City

(Newsweek) Videos posted to social media on Saturday showed members of the white supremacist group Patriot Front marching through Charleston, West Virginia. Although it is unclear what prompted the group to march, the YWCA Charleston held its 8th annual Race to End Racism, which aims to raise funds for community engagement and racial equity and inclusion programming. The race took place during the same time the group of men began to march.

(The Hill) The niece of an Israeli-American hostage being held by Hamas militants in Gaza said President Biden’s administration has shown it is committed to getting the hostages home. “What I know is that the Biden administration has shown unwavering and relentless commitment to my family and the families of all of the hostages, and I know that it is their priority to bring all hostages, including the Americans home and so I know that they are doing absolutely everything that they can,” Hanna Siegal told CBS’s Margaret Brennan on “Face the Nation.”

US Pushes for Gaza Truce, Hostage Release as Blinken Visits

(Bloomberg) US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will step up efforts to secure a truce in Gaza during meetings in the Middle East starting Monday, in what could be a final chance to persuade Israel to call off an attack on Rafah. Blinken is traveling to Saudi Arabia to meet with regional counterparts and then to Jordan and Israel through Wednesday, according to the State Department. It’s his seventh Middle East trip since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7.

In war-battered Gaza, residents grow angry with Hamas

(Washington Post) More than six months into the war in Gaza and with dimming hopes for a cease-fire deal, Palestinians there are growing more critical of Hamas, which some of them blame for the months-long conflict that has destroyed the territory — and their lives. While the majority of Palestinians in Gaza blame Israel for their suffering, according to polling conducted in March, they also appear to be turning their ire toward the militants.

Arizona GOP taps 'fake elector' for RNC post

(NBC News) The Arizona GOP has selected state Sen. Jake Hoffman, a “fake elector” indicted last week and accused of working to overturn President Joe Biden’s 2020 win in Arizona, as a national committeeman for the Republican National Committee. Hoffman — who was indicted Wednesday along with 17 other people, including former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani — was elected to the RNC post along with former state Rep. Liz Harris, who was expelled for reasons related to questioning Biden's 2020 victory in Arizona.
