It's been 43 years since I've been this excited about a Presidential candidate. And back then, I couldn't even vote yet -- although that didn't stop me from spending all my weekends volunteering for his campaign.
I gladly gave endless hours to his campaign and still have the western union I received thanking me for my efforts. 
As a 13-year-old kid, I wasn't quite at your level of importance, but that didn't discourage me in the least. (I met him once and shook his hand, but in a crowd of thousands, but was congratulated by local members of Congress, who saw me staffing booths at festivals and fairs. In fact, even though I followed the 68 campaign surprisingly closely for an 9-year-old, it was McGovern's campaign that really turned me into a political junkie -- despite the ultimate outcome.
I assume you've seen One Bright Shining Moment, but if you haven't, I'd recommend it. It will definitely bring back memories of brighter days when "hope" wasn't simply a slogan.
