Working Families Party Endorses Bernie Sanders for President

The Working Families Party, the labor-aligned third party that originated in New York City and has sought to become a national force, is endorsing Senator Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton, according to one of the group’s founders.

The endorsement is the first in a national race for the party, which is now in almost a dozen other states and which is trying to leave its mark on progressive politics at a moment when income inequality is a major focus of discussion.

But the endorsement is notable in part because of the party’s ties to Bill de Blasio, the mayor of New York City who, after months of hedging, recently endorsed Mrs. Clinton. Mr. de Blasio managed Mrs. Clinton’s successful run for the United States Senate from New York in 2000.

In an interview, Dan Cantor, who helped found the party, called the endorsement of Mr. Sanders “a big moment for us.” He said the party’s members overwhelmingly supported Mr. Sanders in an online vote. He declined to specify how many people voted.

They're two groups that are really trying to address problems within the Democratic Party, make sure many more true progressives get elected, and make sure more progressive policy is enacted. If people are looking for a good ways to reform the party, those two are a good place to start.
