it is a good thing... but as I expected they were mostly whiffle balls. The only nerf ball dealt with Trade and she still refused to take a position. The reporter threw at her the fact she took a position in her book while she was Secretary of State.
I was having a conversation with somebody on this site that claims to be a reporter, on the trail no less... ok I have no way to say yay or nay, but my comment to this poster was that nobody asks anything approaching policy questions on the road.
I know why, becuase I have been told this by one editor directly (my former editor) and two other editors at award dinners. People in the media are afraid of losing access. This is far more valuable to news editors and directors than asking the questions. I know I am not definitely on the Police Chief's Hanukah list, I know this, we asked very pointed questions about field training and cameras. Funny,. the question we asked about cameras became actual policy 3 months later after somebody died. I know, funny dat!
I have also asked very specific questions from our local government leaders that are policy related. And you can bet next press conference I am at where the Chargers come up I will ask about poverty on the SE section of town and how can we justify a 1.3 Billion project, that will produce questionable economic results, when we have a hole of 1.3 billion dollars just to maintain the stuff we actually own.
Fun fact, "stuff" was the highly technical term used by staff... I at times love my city staff. They at times talk down to council members and they don't even get it. They are being talked down to.
By the way, Bernie goes on media often, answers questions often and has been a regular at the Thom Hartmann show for YEARS.

I have been told, we would like to, but if we have a major disaster they won't talk to us. That IS the excuse.
This is BS... in a major disaster they want the stenography corp to spread the news by any means possible. And in a major disaster I too become a stenographer.

Most came back saying you just shut your mouth and look straight ahead. One guy is a Congressman and he was able to play the game with the help of his boss who was a Congressman that lost out to a TeaBagger. Every person to a person, said it is just one big Kabuki Theater. And you had to watch your back.

(154,021 posts)let me add this, since I was told this by a former staffer... the illusion is there to keep the rabid base going YEAHH> but even votes are negotiated as to who takes the fall.
There are calculations of who can take it and which districts are more or less engaged.
Wellstone ruled
(34,661 posts)that is the truth. If the average Joe and Jane knew what really goes on,voter turnout would be less than 10%. And it is all about who can take the hit and yet keep on ticking. Learned ton's from the Paul on our monthly coffee get together's. What a loss.

We cover politics, but the endorsement this election will be to the obvious winner of all this, BIG MONEY.

(68,644 posts)How EVER did she manage to do it, five whole questions???
She is still on the fence on the TPP, won't answer.
On having earned $25 Million since 2014, she said they remember their roots and want granddaughter to have chances to live up to her God-given potential.
On sleazy friends, she said "I have many old friends
I'm going to keep talking to my old friends no matter who they are."
Want's to get the emails out ASAP! (why did she destroy them again?)
And, yeah, the Iraq War vote, she's like super sorry, her bad.

They were the kind of questions you ask that are in the script.
A tough question might be something like.
Madam Secretary (insert pol here, could be Sanders, could be Rubio could be my mayor for all I care, though my mayor will have an easy out), how do you account for the failure of urban schools in many large school districts, while their counterparts in suburban areas do well under the same supposed funding? And if I may follow up, how will the DoE deal with this result at a national policy level? It seems that NCLB has been a failure in dealing with urban schools?
Education is on my mind right now.
Foreign affairs. Since she was SOS, Madam Secretary how do you account for TPP, and how do you expect it to have different results when KORUS led to 70K in job losses in the US, and NAFTA to 1 million? How do you expect to make sure that this result is different in a treaty that experts such as Stieglitz and Krugman expect to see further erosion in Middle Class jobs?
I could go on...
Policing. Madam Secretary, we know that one issue with policing is implicit bias, how do you expect to change the culture of 18000 police departments to include a change of culture from the warrior ethos to the guardian ethos?

That sounds okay, but I did not hear her referring with
those 2 points to the US.
Am I over critical here?
