Related: About this forumOMG!!! This the funniest thing I've seen in weeks.
I have tears streaming down my cheeks and it's from a Tennessee newspaper!!
I'm going to have to turn that into a sig line pic.

(11,366 posts)Clay Bennett is notorious for his support of liberals and his skewering of Republicans.
Here's some more of his work:

1. The name of this Toon is called, "The Icon."
EDIT: I'll remove these because I saw them on what I thought was Bennett's page, but it flipped to other cartoonists without my realizing it. The first point still stands.

Actually both of those are Ramirez toons.

(184 posts)I was simply pointing out that the OP made an error in their attribution.
Is that anti-Bernie? If it is then my bad and I apologize.

(45,065 posts)Just a word to the wise. Often people will post from the latest page not realizing where they are.

(11,366 posts)They were on Bennett's page. Odd.
But he has made fun of her before.

(27,310 posts)The one that you admire so much in your OP is the first about Bernie from Bennett and, I hate to tell you, it is meant to be insulting.
Fawke Em
(11,366 posts)And, given the way he skewers the right, I wouldn't think so since the piece is called, "The Icon." I took it to mean that Bernie is becoming as iconic as Che.

(55,981 posts)The British and their loyalist colonial followers (status quo followers) thought they would insult the freedom fighting colonist followers by calling them yankee doodles. Problem is that our founders took the label and embraced it.
Those that for whatever cowardice reason decide to side with the 1% are the equivalent of the loyalists in the 1700"s.

(11,945 posts)For a second there, I felt royally pissed (it's been a pissy morning), then the pieces fell into place: "Che" wearing a "Bernie" t-shirt, Che looking exceedingly young, soft, naive and hippie-esque. I can't imagine how his mind works, but his sense of irony is subtle and sharp. This is how the oligarchy and their henchmen are trying to portray Bernie supporters. This is how they invalidate us, and it is a lie. This is how Bennett skewers them.
Love it. Thanks, Fawke Em!

(11,366 posts)I know the right-wing HATES Che, but Bennett isn't a right-winger, so I took it to mean what you did.
Here's the shirt so many young people wear (I have one, but mine is Army green):

so, i can see someone with che's ideals for economic opportunity and equality for all citizens being inspired and supportive of bernie in america today.

(1,508 posts)Che Guevara was a prominent communist figure in the Cuban Revolution (195659) who went on to become a guerrilla leader in South America. Executed by the Bolivian army in 1967, he has since been regarded as a martyred hero by generations of leftists worldwide. Guevaras image remains a prevalent icon of leftist radicalism and anti-imperialism.
Bernie is not the warrior type, and would not go so far as to execute imperialist as Che did. Bernie is not a communist, as Che was, and therefore would not take this country to the extent that Castro and Guevara took Cuba.
Che was a socialist, but a different kind of socialist than Bernie. Che Guevara was a Marxist style socialist more along the lines of what we used to call countries behind the iron curtain. Bernie Sanders is a democratic socialist, more along the lines of the top nations in the world when it comes to health, wealth, happiness and fairness for the people who live within their borders. Countries like Denmark, Norway, etc.
So there is a difference, and although the T-Shirt creates a romanticized image, it is that and only that, a romanticized image of two men who would battle the Oligarch's in favor of the middle class and the poor, but there is where it ends, instead of setting up a democratic government that imho would have been better for the people, they decided for communism instead.
I believe Bernie would take a much different path, if he wins the presidency, toward helping to make this nation a better place for the citizens of this country, and given the influence this country has on the rest of the world, would through influence make the world a better place during his time in the Presidency. Bernie is for the people, the 99% who have been downtrodden and overlooked as this country has changed from one presidency to another, republican and democrat, both favoring the Corporations, the Hedge Fund managers, and Wall Street, one a bit more than the other, over the true people that make this nation great, the rest of us. So, I say let's keep this in mind when we see this picture of Che with Bernies image imprinted on the shirt he is wearing.
